Product introduction
The Instrument Transformer Volt-Ampere Characteristic Tester, also known as the Variable Frequency Instrument Transformer Tester or Comprehensive Instrument Transformer Tester, is a fully automated power testing instrument that utilizes variable frequency technology to test the characteristics of both Potential Transformers (PTs) and Current Transformers (CTs).
This variable frequency instrument transformer tester is specifically designed to perform the following tests:
CT and PT volt-ampere (V-A) characteristic tests
CT and PT polarity tests
CT and PT ratio and polarity tests
The comprehensive tester automatically calculates key parameters such as:
The error curve at any specified point on the CT
CT/PT transformation ratios
Ratio errors (ratio difference), and other relevant results
Developed and manufactured by Wuhan Sanxin Electric Power in compliance with Chinese national standards, industry standards, metrological standards, and IEC international standards, this instrument supports the testing of steady-state and transient parameters for various types of CTs and PTs—including protection-class, metering-class, and TP-class transformers.
It is a professional power testing instrument suitable for use in laboratories as well as in the power industry for instrument transformer evaluation.

Equipped with built-in data storage and printing capabilities, it can generate and export test reports in Microsoft Word format for further analysis and printing via PC-based software.
Features:
Comprehensive functionality: Meets all testing requirements for various types of Current Transformers (CTs)—including protection-class, metering-class, and TP-class—such as excitation (volt-ampere) characteristics, transformation ratio, polarity, secondary winding resistance, burden, ratio error, and phase angle error. It also supports testing of Potential Transformer (PT) electromagnetic units for excitation characteristics, ratio, polarity, secondary winding resistance, and ratio error.
Built-in rechargeable lithium battery: Eliminates the need for an AC power supply. With a single wiring setup, the instrument can complete multiple CT tests—including DC resistance, excitation characteristics, ratio/polarity, and ratio/phase angle errors—significantly reducing workload, improving efficiency, and facilitating on-site calibration of instrument transformers.
Long battery life: A full charge enables testing of hundreds of CT windings. Testing can also be performed while the unit is charging.
Advanced variable-frequency method: Accurately measures CT/PT volt-ampere characteristic curves and error curves, supporting CTs with knee-point voltages up to 60 kV.
Voltage-based ratio testing: Capable of on-site testing of 0.2S-class current transformers. CT/PT ratio measurement range: 1 to 40,000.
Automatic parameter calculation: Instantly provides key performance parameters including knee-point voltage/current, 10% (or 5%) error curves, Accuracy Limit Factor (ALF), Instrument Security Factor (FS), secondary time constant (Ts), remanence factor (Kr), and saturated/unsaturated inductance for both CTs and PTs.
Standards compliance: Fully complies with GB1208 (IEC 60044-1), GB16847 (IEC 60044-6), GB1207, and other relevant instrument transformer standards. The device automatically selects the appropriate standard based on the transformer type and accuracy class.
